In a decisive move to safeguard peace and security, the Kogi State Government has issued a sweeping ban on all traditional processions within Kotonkarfe area of the state. Also affected by the order are its neighbouring communities.
The ban was made known by the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, who underscored government’s commitment to maintaining tranquility in this historic town.
The state government noted that it was acting on credible security reports as part of proactive measures to preserve the harmony enjoyed by Kotonkarfe residents as the ban was aimed at thwarting any disruptive plans by certain elements within the community.
According to the statement, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Governor of Kogi State, has emphasized peaceful co-existence as the cornerstone of his administration, saying that rather than resorting to violence, he encourages dialogue and open communication to address grievances.
The ban is not a mere formality, the state government stressed was not a mere formality as violators will be treated as enemies of peace and the State.
The Commissioner noted that the government’s decision prioritized the rights of Kotonkarfe people and all Kogites to live without fear.
Law enforcement agencies have been urged to enforce the ban rigorously, ensuring compliance with the laws of the land as vigilance will play a crucial role in maintaining order.
