Dr. Princess Aderemi Folashade Adebowale, National Programme Manager of the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP), has been selected for the prestigious 2026 “Ambassadors for Peace” Award by the AWHPI Global Foundation.

Adebowale is expected to receive the honour during the Foundation’s high-level programming and Awards Ceremony scheduled for September 22, 2026, in New York City, as part of side events surrounding the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81).

The recognition places Nigeria’s school feeding programme and humanitarian interventions under the spotlight internationally, with the Foundation citing Adebowale’s leadership, humanitarian service, commitment to inclusion and contribution to sustainable development.

The Ambassadors for Peace honour recognises global leaders whose work advances peace, humanitarian service, leadership, inclusion, sustainable development and international cooperation, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

Adebowale was named alongside a group of international changemakers, including Shannon Roper Hernandez, FNP-BC, Founder and CEO of Hernandez Holistic Health, United States; David Ahmed Coulibaly, Director of Community Affairs, Office of the Bronx Borough President, United States; Mrs. Laura P. Thomas Davis, Panama international fashion designer and icon; Adebisi Clare Jagunna, Founder and CEO of Hands Lifting Hearts Inc. and Executive Director of the AWHPI Canada Chapter; Hon. Jennifer Adighije, Managing Director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company, Nigeria; and Anthony “Tony Dody” DeGraaf, Hollywood filmmaker and producer.

Global Recognition For Nigeria’s School Feeding Programme

The award is expected to further draw international attention to the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its social investment interventions targeting vulnerable Nigerians, children and low-income communities.

Under Adebowale’s leadership, the NHGSFP has continued efforts to strengthen the delivery of school meals to millions of pupils nationwide, while linking the programme with local economic opportunities for smallholder farmers, food suppliers and other participants in the agricultural value chain.

The programme is designed not only to improve children’s access to nutritious meals but also to support school attendance and enrolment while creating demand for locally produced agricultural commodities.

The AWHPI Global Foundation described the recognition as more than an award, stressing the responsibility of leaders to deploy their influence towards practical solutions to global challenges.

“This honour represents more than recognition. It is a call to action for leaders to use their influence and platforms to advance practical solutions for peace and sustainable development,” the Foundation stated.

Three-Day Global Programme

The award ceremony will form part of a three-day AWHPI Global programme scheduled for September 21–23, 2026, in New York City.

According to the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), the programme will feature high-level dialogues, keynote addresses, panel sessions, the AWHPI Global Honors & Awards, networking opportunities and exclusive activities at the United Nations Headquarters for participating delegates.

The selection of Adebowale as an “Ambassador for Peace” honouree is therefore being viewed as a significant international recognition of Nigeria’s efforts in school nutrition, humanitarian service and inclusive development.
