Fresh controversy has erupted within the as the party’s candidate for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, , has accused some national leaders of the party of attempting to unlawfully tamper with his nomination ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ebri, in a strongly worded statement released in Abuja, alleged that there were ongoing efforts by influential figures within the party hierarchy to replace him despite his emergence through what he described as a duly conducted and constitutionally recognized process.
The candidate specifically called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, party stakeholders, and the public to pay close attention to what he characterized as a dangerous threat to internal democracy and the sanctity of electoral processes.
According to him, he fulfilled all requirements prescribed by the party, including obtaining nomination forms, participating in the screening exercise, and securing clearance from the relevant party organs before being officially recognized as the party’s candidate for the constituency.
He maintained that his name was subsequently published on the party’s official platform, thereby affirming his status as the Labour Party’s standard-bearer for the federal constituency.
The politician expressed concern that attempts were allegedly being made to substitute his candidature in favour of another aspirant, warning that such actions would undermine the credibility of the party and violate established electoral guidelines.
Ebri alleged that the plot involved senior officials at the party’s national secretariat and accused them of seeking to overturn a valid nomination through administrative means rather than established legal procedures.
Describing the development as an affront to democratic principles, he insisted that he remained the authentic candidate of the party and had not withdrawn from the race nor committed any offence that could warrant his removal.
He further argued that any attempt to alter the party’s nomination list outside the provisions of the Electoral Act would amount to disenfranchising party members and supporters who had rallied behind his aspiration.
The Labour Party candidate therefore urged INEC and law enforcement agencies to ensure that due process is respected and that no individual or group succeeds in manipulating the party’s nomination process.
As of the time of filing this report, the Labour Party leadership and its presidential candidate, , had yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
Political observers say the dispute highlights growing concerns over internal party management and candidate selection processes as political parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 electoral cycle.
