The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, has thrown its weight behind the Federal Government’s renewed infrastructure development efforts in the state, describing the commencement of the Osogbo Road Construction Project as a landmark intervention capable of boosting economic growth, improving connectivity and restoring public confidence in governance.

The association also reaffirmed its collective support for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), while announcing a statewide grassroots mobilization campaign ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The position was contained in a press statement signed by the Chairman of ALGON in Osun State, Hon. Abiodun Idowu, on behalf of the chairmen of the 30 local government councils in the state, shortly after the official flag-off of the road project in Osogbo.

According to the statement, the commencement of construction reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to extending the dividends of the Renewed Hope Agenda to Osun State through strategic investments in infrastructure.

ALGON noted that the project was initially awarded in 2021 during the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola but was delayed before the present administration revived and activated it for execution.

Describing the road as a critical economic asset, the association said the project would facilitate the movement of people and goods, stimulate commercial activities and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of Osun State.

The local government chairmen urged residents of Osogbo and other parts of the state to support the project, emphasizing that improved road infrastructure remains one of the key drivers of investment, trade and sustainable economic development.

The association also applauded the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, for what it described as his commitment to delivering quality road infrastructure across the country in line with the Federal Government’s development agenda.

It further commended the Ataoja of Osogbo, members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, party leaders and other stakeholders whose support contributed to the successful commencement of the project.

ALGON stated that stronger collaboration between the Federal Government and grassroots institutions would create more opportunities for development and accelerate the delivery of public services to communities across Osun State.

Ahead of the governorship election, Hon. Idowu disclosed that extensive mobilization activities had commenced across all 30 local government areas and the state’s Area Office to encourage voter participation and strengthen support for the APC.

He appealed for a peaceful, transparent and credible electoral process, stressing that the election should reflect the genuine aspirations of the people.

According to the ALGON chairman, residents of the state are increasingly demanding governance that delivers measurable results through improved healthcare, quality roads, employment opportunities and other people-oriented infrastructure rather than political theatrics.

He said the mobilization exercise would involve youths, women, market leaders, traditional institutions, religious bodies, elected representatives and other critical stakeholders across the state.

Reaffirming the association’s endorsement of AMBO, Hon. Idowu maintained that the local government chairmen remain united in their determination to work for what they described as a new phase of development anchored on accountability, prudent utilization of public resources and improved service delivery.

He added that effective governance at all levels must prioritize projects that directly impact citizens, including investments in healthcare, road infrastructure, job creation and other essential public services capable of improving living standards across Osun State.
