The 21 Local Government Councils in Kebbi State, under the umbrella of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), have lauded Governor Nasir Idris for what they described as a sustained commitment to grassroots development and people-oriented governance.

The commendation was contained in a birthday message signed by the ALGON Kebbi State Chairman, Hon. Dahiru Ambrusa, on behalf of all the local government chairmen in the state, to mark the governor’s birthday.

Ambrusa said Governor Idris’ administration had created a stronger connection between government policies and the needs of communities, with significant interventions recorded across key sectors of the state economy and social infrastructure.

He said the governor’s four-point agenda had translated into visible projects and programmes in security, roads, healthcare, education, agriculture, employment and social intervention.

According to him, the administration’s security interventions, particularly its support for Operation Farautar Tauri, have strengthened the capacity of local communities and authorities to protect farmlands and restore economic activities disrupted by insecurity.

He noted that the provision of vehicles, allowances and other forms of support had contributed to improved security in farming communities, giving farmers in areas including Argungu, Zuru and Yauri greater confidence to return to their farms.

The ALGON chairman also highlighted the administration’s infrastructure programme, pointing to ongoing township road construction in Birnin Kebbi, Jega, Gwandu and Bunza, as well as rural feeder roads connecting more than 150 communities.

He said the projects were not only improving transportation but also opening new opportunities for trade and local economic activities by connecting rural producers with markets.

Ambrusa further praised the governor’s urban renewal initiatives and the development of new motor parks, which he said were contributing to job creation while improving the movement of people and goods.

In the health sector, he said the government’s intervention in 200 Primary Health Care Centres, corresponding to one centre in each political ward, had expanded access to basic healthcare, particularly for women and children in rural communities.

He also cited monthly stipends for vulnerable households as part of measures aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship on residents.

The ALGON chairman described the administration’s education programme as another important component of its development agenda, noting that the recruitment of 2,000 teachers and renovation of 800 schools across the state had helped improve the learning environment.

He added that the scholarship programme benefiting 1,000 Kebbi indigenes locally and internationally was strengthening the state’s human capital base and preparing young people for professional careers.

On economic empowerment, Ambrusa said the government had supported more than 10,000 women and youths per local government through MSME grants, agricultural inputs and skills acquisition programmes.

He said the provision of tractors, fertiliser and solar-powered irrigation pumps was helping to stimulate agricultural production, while the reconstruction of markets across the 21 local government areas was creating better trading environments.

Beyond physical infrastructure and social programmes, the ALGON chairman identified the governor’s commitment to local government autonomy and the timely release of allocations as a major factor in improving grassroots administration.

According to him, the approach has enabled local government chairmen to respond more effectively to community needs and execute projects at the ward level.

“Your greatest innovation is your fidelity to local government autonomy and timely release of allocations. This has enabled chairmen to execute ward-level projects and deliver governance that listens, builds and endures,” Ambrusa stated.

He described Governor Idris as a leader whose administration had placed accountability and service at the centre of governance, stressing that the impact of the government’s policies was being felt across the state’s 21 local government areas.

“As ALGON, we salute a leader whose benchmark is accountability, whose compass is service, and whose legacy is being written in the lives of our people across all 21 LGAs,” he said.

The Kebbi ALGON chairman congratulated Governor Idris on his birthday and prayed for continued good health, wisdom and strength for the governor to complete ongoing development initiatives across the state.
