The Executive Editor of ABMS WAVES LTD, Comrade Bashiru, has issued a stern warning to members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition over what he described as the deliberate sidelining of Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide from party activities.

Speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Chapter, Bashiru condemned the move as a dangerous step that could plunge the coalition into disarray and possibly lead to its collapse if urgent measures are not taken to involve Abejide in its decision-making processes.

Bashiru explained that the coalition of the N-ADC, which recently witnessed an interim segregation of leadership, was formed without the knowledge or consent of Abejide, the party’s most senior figure. He described the act as a political aberration, calling it a calculated insult that undermines Abejide’s stature and disrespects his years of dedication to the party.

According to him, the exclusion was not only an act of negligence but an intentional slight that must be resisted by all Nigerians who believe in fairness and democratic inclusion, both within and outside the country.

Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Bashiru stressed that any investment of effort, time, or resources in the coalition would be meaningless without Abejide’s active participation.

He recalled that the ADC, originally founded in 2005 as the Alliance for Democratic Change, formally registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2006 under its current name. The party’s early years, including its debut in the 2007 general election, were marked by limited visibility and stagnation until Abejide’s entry in 2018 breathed new life into its structure and public profile.

Born on May 8, 1975, in Alu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. (Elder) Leke Joseph Abejide was known for his far-reaching community development projects, extensive social welfare efforts, and philanthropic work long before entering the political arena.

His influence and service extended beyond his immediate constituency, touching neighboring communities and establishing him as a figure of goodwill and commitment.

In 2019, Abejide contested his first political election and won a seat in the House of Representatives, representing Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopamuro Federal Constituency. He was re-elected in 2023, solidifying his place as a two-term lawmaker and the party’s most prominent elected figure.

He currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise, maintaining his position as the highest-ranking ADC member in the National Executive Council (NEC).

Bashiru noted that Abejide’s dedication to the ADC has been consistent, citing his strategic contributions during Chief Ralph Nwosu’s leadership and his significant role as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the November 2023 Kogi Governorship election. That candidacy, he said, not only strengthened the party’s influence in the state but also expanded its grassroots reach.

In closing, Bashiru reiterated that the continued exclusion of Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide from coalition affairs was a direct threat to the party’s unity and viability, warning that the coalition’s future in the 2027 political landscape depends squarely on reversing this course.
