The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced the construction of a new 330kV Turn-In Turn-Out transmission line at its Ihovbor Work Centre as part of efforts to strengthen electricity transmission capacity and improve power evacuation from major generation plants to the national grid.
TCN management disclosed in a statement that the project involves the stringing of the Ihovbor–Ajaokuta 330kV transmission line, a key infrastructure upgrade designed to improve the efficiency and reliability of Nigeria’s power transmission network.
According to the company, work on the project began on Friday, February 27, 2026, and is scheduled for completion on Tuesday, March 30, 2026.
The transmission expansion is expected to significantly enhance the company’s ability to evacuate more electricity generated from the Azura Power Plant and plants under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) to transmission substations across the national grid.
TCN explained that the new line will also improve transmission channels, provide additional capacity for power delivery, and strengthen the reliability of bulk electricity supply nationwide.
The company further stated that the project will enhance the operational capacity of the Ihovbor Transmission Substation upon completion, thereby contributing to improved stability of electricity transmission within the national grid.
Management emphasised that the development underscores TCN’s ongoing commitment to expanding the country’s transmission network and increasing its wheeling capacity to support efficient and reliable electricity supply for homes, businesses, and industries across Nigeria.
