The Not Too Young To Perform (NTYTP) Leadership Development Advocacy has applauded the appointment of Chief Ogheneovo Edewor to the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), describing it as a reaffirmation of the party’s commitment to internal democracy, merit, and inclusive leadership.

In a statement released on Thursday, December 11, 2025, and signed by its National Secretary, Arc. Bello Muhammed, NTYTP described the appointment as “a strong testament to the party’s sustained commitment to internal democracy and inclusive leadership.”

The organisation commended the YPP for what it called a consistent demonstration that political parties can “uphold their constitutions, promote merit, and create platforms that recognise both experience and youth-driven innovation.”

According to NTYTP, Chief Edewor’s elevation to the BOT aligns perfectly with the values it champions across Nigeria’s political space. “Chief Edewor’s elevation to the BOT is not only a recognition of his distinguished contributions to the YPP, but also a clear signal that internal party democracy remains a viable pathway for building credible and productive leadership,” the statement said.

The organisation used the occasion to remind political parties across Nigeria of their duty to uphold transparent processes and constitutional values. It urged parties “across ideological lines and sizes—to ensure strict compliance with their constitutions, transparent decision-making processes, and unwavering adherence to internal party democracy.” NTYTP emphasised that the strength of Nigeria’s broader democratic system depends heavily on the extent to which political parties function as credible training grounds for future leaders, rather than as “platforms controlled by a few powerful interests.”

Reinforcing its long-standing advocacy for youth inclusion, NTYTP renewed its call for structural reforms that allow young people to play meaningful roles in political party leadership. The statement stressed the need for “clearly defined leadership pathways, mentorship windows, and strategic participation opportunities” to enable young citizens to develop competence and contribute effectively to national development.

“We call on all political parties to create special spaces for young people to learn the art and act of leadership through structured participation in party organs and decision-making processes,” Arc. Muhammed said. “The YPP has demonstrated that this is possible, and we encourage other parties across the country to adopt and deepen similar reforms.”

NTYTP concluded by reaffirming its unwavering commitment to advancing youth leadership development, strengthening democratic institutions, and supporting political parties that prioritise transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.
