A fresh chapter has opened for the Orlu Zonal Progressive Union in the Federal Capital Territory following the election and inauguration of a new Executive Committee on Sunday, September 14, 2025. The peaceful, free, and fair election, which brought to a close the tenure of Engr. O.A. Anumiri, produced Chief Marcel Ezenwa as the new President-General of the union.
In a telephone interview with journalists shortly after his inauguration, Chief Ezenwa described his emergence as President-General as “a new dawn” for Orlu indigenes in Abuja and Imo State. He said his election was not a personal triumph but a collective mandate to pursue unity, peace, and development for the Orlu people.
“I can assure you that my election as the President-General of the Orlu Zonal Progressive Union Abuja marks a new dawn for our union and for the entire Orlu people here in the Federal Capital Territory and back home in Imo State,” Chief Ezenwa stated. “This mandate is not mine alone; it is a collective call to service, a responsibility to advance the unity, peace, and development of our people.”
Speaking with a tone of optimism and inclusivity, he called on indigenes of Orlu both in Abuja and at home to close ranks and work together. “I urge all sons and daughters of Orlu, both in Abuja and at home, to come together in unity.
“Our progress as a people can only be achieved when we stand as one, setting aside differences and focusing on the greater good of our community. Together, we can unlock the full potential of Orlu and make speedy progress in every area that affects our lives,” he said.
Chief Ezenwa also pledged to build strong partnerships with government and traditional institutions.
He expressed his readiness to align with the Imo State Government under Governor Hope Uzodimma and to work closely with elected representatives at the National Assembly. “The new executive under my leadership is fully committed and ready to work with the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, in driving initiatives that will foster development and uplift the standard of living of our people,” he affirmed.
He further emphasized the importance of synergy with federal lawmakers and community leaders, saying: “We also encourage our representatives at the National Assembly to close ranks, unite with all stakeholders, and channel their efforts towards the empowerment and advancement of the good people of Orlu zone as my administration will work with all our federal lawmakers.
“We will also work with the traditional institutions in the state for the development and progress of the people of Orlu zone in particular and Imo State in general,” he further assured.
Calling for a spirit of shared vision, the new President-General concluded with a rallying message: “This is a time for collaboration with every stakeholder, a time for vision, and a time for action. With unity, commitment, and purposeful leadership, we will build a stronger Orlu, a more prosperous community, and a brighter future for generations to come.”
With his words resonating with determination and hope, Chief Marcel Ezenwa signaled the beginning of what he described as a transformative era for the Orlu Zonal Progressive Union, Abuja Chapter.
