A woman identified as Esther Koko Umoh has been arraigned before Magistrate Court 1 in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, on charges of aggravated assault following a brutal attack on a Spa Attendant in Wuye District.

According to the prosecution, the incident stemmed from a heated altercation over a disputed sum of One Thousand Naira (₦1,000). Esther was alleged to have physically assaulted the victim, leaving her with serious bodily injuries, including damage to her ears, which later developed into ENT complications.

Police investigations, supported by CCTV footage from the spa, showed Esther Koko Umoh shouting, molesting, and attacking staff members. Witnesses reportedly had to intervene to stop the violence and rescue the attendant from further harm.

The assault, which drew public outrage, came after a string of complaints by residents in the neighborhood who accused the defendant of routinely harassing and abusing people around her vicinity. A local security source from the Neighborhood Watch described Esther as a “nuisance to her community,” saying her behavior had raised concerns before the violent outburst at the spa.

Following her arrest by officers at a local police station, Esther reportedly showed no remorse for her actions and even harassed law enforcement personnel during interrogation. Attempts at settling the matter amicably failed, particularly as the victim’s medical condition worsened.

During the court proceedings, the prosecutor argued that the severity of the incident warranted firm legal action. He emphasized that the charges against Esther Koko Umoh fall under Sections 79, 246, and 397 of the Penal Code, which deal with criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, and assault.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the Presiding Magistrate ruled that the defendant should pay a fine of One Million Naira (₦1,000,000.00) or face remand in custody.

The case highlights growing concerns over public misconduct and assault cases in the Federal Capital Territory, with many calling for stricter enforcement of laws against violent behavior.
