A prominent traditional ruler in Enugu State, His Royal Majesty, Eze-Igwe William Ezugwu, has lauded Governor Peter Mbah’s administration following the recent launch of Enugu Air, describing the initiative as a “revolutionary leap toward economic self-reliance and regional prosperity.” The monarch has called on other governors in the South East to adopt Enugu’s “visionary economic model” to foster collective growth across the region.
In a formal statement released on Wednesday, Eze-Igwe Ezugwu, the Eze Ogbozarra III of Opi Ancient Kingdom, popularly known as the Eze ka Eze of Idekeland, commended Governor Mbah for what he termed an “uncommon political will, foresight, and leadership capacity.”
He emphasized that the establishment of the state-owned airline is a historic milestone for both Enugu State and the entire South East.
“The launch of Enugu Air by His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah-led administration is a rare display of visionary leadership,” stated the royal father. “It marks a historic milestone not only for Enugu State but for the entire South East region, which has yearned for bold initiatives that can unlock our economic potential.”
According to Eze-Igwe Ezugwu, the airline is poised to deliver significant economic benefits, including job creation, increased investor confidence, and a substantial boost to the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR).
He noted that with flights connecting major Nigerian cities like Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Kano, alongside plans for airport concessioning and a cargo terminal, Enugu is on track to become the primary economic hub of the South East.
“This is the kind of audacity in governance that our people need,” he remarked, aligning the project with Governor Mbah’s agenda for “Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity.”
The monarch also praised the administration’s broader infrastructure development, highlighting the allocation of ₦41.1 billion to transport infrastructure as a clear commitment to using aviation as a catalyst for trade, tourism, and global competitiveness.
“From road construction and smart schools to economic reforms and now an airline, the Mbah administration is writing a new narrative of possibility and pride for the people of Enugu State,” Eze-Igwe Ezugwu added, urging continued support for the governor.
In a direct appeal to regional leaders, the traditional ruler advocated for the adoption of similar innovative governance strategies. “It is time our leaders looked beyond the ordinary and embraced disruptive innovation in public service,” he declared.
“What Governor Peter Mbah has done in less than two years in office is a shining example of what visionary governance can achieve. I call on other South East governors to emulate this model for the collective advancement of Igboland.”
Concluding his statement, Eze-Igwe Ezugwu reiterated the unwavering support of the Opi Ancient Kingdom and Idekeland for Governor Mbah’s administration, offering prayers for his continued success.
“Governor Mbah has our blessings and total support. As traditional leaders, we will continue to mobilize our communities in support of his transformative leadership. Enugu is rising, and we are proud to be part of this renaissance,” he said.
