The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, has intensified the campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, expressing confidence that the party will emerge victorious in the August 15, 2026 governorship election through what it described as an unprecedented grassroots mobilisation across the state’s 30 local government areas.

The position was announced during the official inauguration of the SWAGA 2.0 movement in Osun State, where the state’s local government chairmen pledged to deploy their political structures to consolidate support for the APC candidate in the final weeks before the election.

Speaking on behalf of the 30 democratically elected council chairmen, ALGON Osun Chairman and Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government Area, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, said the local government system remains the most effective platform for political mobilisation and citizen engagement.

He described SWAGA 2.0 as a strategic movement designed to reinforce progressive governance while complementing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through stronger grassroots participation and improved local governance.

According to him, the campaign machinery already established in every ward and community across the state provides the APC with a significant electoral advantage.

“The 30 LGAs are united in purpose. Our structures are firmly rooted in every ward, our engagement with the people remains strong, and we are fully committed to translating this momentum into electoral victory for the APC and Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji,” Abiodun stated.

The association said its endorsement of Oyebamiji was based on his track record in public administration, citing his previous service as Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), his eight-year tenure as Osun State Commissioner for Finance and his leadership role at the Osun State Investment Company Limited.

The chairmen argued that the combination of federal administrative experience and state-level economic management places the APC candidate in a strong position to drive investment, improve public finance and accelerate development across Osun State.

“We are supporting a candidate whose competence has been demonstrated in key public institutions and whose understanding of the state’s economic realities makes him well positioned to deliver sustainable growth and inclusive development,” Abiodun said.

ALGON also applauded President Tinubu for reforms promoting local government autonomy and strengthening judicial independence, noting that the measures have enhanced the operational capacity of local councils to deliver essential services and development projects closer to the people.

The association maintained that increased autonomy has restored greater responsibility and accountability to local government administration, enabling councils to contribute more effectively to grassroots development.

Calling for a peaceful electoral process, the chairmen urged party supporters, traditional rulers, youths, women and other stakeholders to conduct themselves responsibly before, during and after the poll.

They further pledged to work closely with the APC leadership and security agencies to ensure a transparent, credible and peaceful election while safeguarding the electoral process across all local government areas, including locations considered politically sensitive.

Reaffirming their confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, the council chairmen described the forthcoming governorship election as a defining moment for Osun State’s political and economic future.

They expressed optimism that sustained grassroots mobilisation, combined with the APC’s campaign strategy and organisational strength, would secure victory for Oyebamiji at the polls on August 15.
