The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully energized the 330KV Ugwuaji-Apir Transmission Line 2, marking a significant milestone in the restoration of power supply to the Northern regions.
The General Manager (GM), Public Affairs of the transmission company, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed in a statement that the energization, which took place at approximately 11:50 am today, follows the completion of repairs and stringing of damaged portions of the transmission line.
With the line now operational, Apir and Jos Transmission Substations have begun receiving loads, paving the way for increased power distribution to customers in the region. The Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola Distribution Companies are expected to benefit from the restored bulk power supply, enabling them to provide more electricity to their respective franchise areas.
The 330KV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission lines had been out of service since October 21, 2024, due to vandalism, resulting in reduced power supply to the North East and North West. However, with the repair and restoration of Line 1 on October 30, 2024, and now Line 2, both lines are back in circuit, ensuring a substantial improvement in power supply to the affected regions.
The successful energization of the transmission line is a testament to TCN’s commitment to maintaining a reliable and efficient transmission network. The company acknowledges the patience and understanding of electricity customers in the Northern axis, who were impacted by the incident, and is working diligently to ensure a stable power supply.
The restoration of the Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line is expected to have a positive impact on the overall power supply situation in the region, providing relief to customers who had been affected by the outage. As TCN continues to work towards improving the transmission infrastructure, the company remains dedicated to providing a reliable and efficient power supply to meet the growing demands of the nation.
