Tensions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State’s Wase Federal Constituency may be heading toward a defining moment, as party members in Kadarko District have issued a firm and unmistakable warning: adopt zoning ahead of the 2027 general elections or risk deepening internal divisions that could fracture the party’s base.
This position emerged from a well-attended stakeholders’ meeting held on April 19, 2026, in Kadarko, where party leaders, elders, women representatives, youth groups, and critical grassroots actors converged under the leadership of Hon. Shuaibu Ibrahim Shuaibu (Ambassador). What began as a consultative gathering quickly evolved into a decisive political statement, culminating in a unanimous endorsement of zoning and leadership rotation for the Wase Federal Constituency seat.
In a press statement issued by Wase Concerned Patriots for Zoning, participants made it clear that their demand was rooted in principles of fairness, equity, and long-term party stability. However, beyond the language of inclusion, the tone of the communiqué signaled urgency—and a subtle ultimatum.
Stakeholders argued that after nearly two decades of continuous representation by a single individual from one section of the constituency, the political equilibrium has become increasingly fragile. They warned that failure to recalibrate through zoning could erode trust, alienate key blocs within the constituency, and ultimately weaken the APC’s electoral prospects.
“The time has come for a dignified and peaceful transition,” the statement declared, emphasizing that zoning is not merely a political preference but a strategic necessity. “It is the most equitable and inclusive pathway to deepen unity, promote fairness, and ensure every district within Wase Federal Constituency feels a genuine sense of belonging.”
While the group was careful to clarify that its position was not an indictment of past leadership or performance, it nonetheless underscored the risks of maintaining the status quo. According to insiders at the meeting, several speakers warned that continued concentration of political power in one axis could provoke resentment and disengagement among other districts—conditions that have historically led to party crises in similar contexts.
The endorsement of zoning, therefore, was framed not as a rebellion but as a preventive measure—an attempt to avert what stakeholders described as a looming “internal rupture.”
Observers note that the language of the statement reflects a calculated balance between diplomacy and firmness. On one hand, Kadarko APC members expressed appreciation for developmental strides recorded in the constituency over the years, acknowledging the efforts of past representation. On the other hand, they left little doubt that patience within the district is wearing thin.
“The call for zoning is not directed against any individual,” the statement reiterated. “It is a forward-looking step aimed at sustaining the collective confidence and harmony that Wase Federal Constituency has always enjoyed.”
Yet, the subtext of the message suggests a growing insistence on political restructuring within the constituency—one that distributes opportunity more evenly across its districts.
Beyond Kadarko, the group extended an invitation—and a challenge—to other districts and APC stakeholders across Wase Federal Constituency. They called for constructive engagement on the zoning question, urging party leaders to prioritize unity over entrenched interests.
Political analysts say the development could mark the beginning of a broader realignment within the APC in Wase. If other districts align with Kadarko’s position, the pressure on party leadership to formalize zoning arrangements could intensify significantly in the coming months.
At the same time, resistance from entrenched interests cannot be ruled out, setting the stage for what may become a defining intra-party contest ahead of 2027.
For now, Kadarko District has drawn a clear line in the sand.
“The people of Kadarko remain committed to the unity of Wase,” the statement concluded, but with a pointed reminder: “Wase Federal Constituency belongs to all of us. Fairness and equity today will guarantee a stronger and more united Wase tomorrow.”
Whether that call translates into consensus—or confrontation—may ultimately determine the APC’s cohesion and electoral strength in Wase Federal Constituency as the 2027 race approaches.
