Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, has applauded the Nigerian Army for its exceptional commitment to securing lives and property along the Illela–Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway Project, a flagship initiative under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
During a one-day operational visit to Kebbi State, Minister Badaru addressed troops stationed at the Forward Operations Base Laager, the military unit responsible for providing security at the road construction site. His visit was aimed at assessing the ongoing military operations in the region and reinforcing the government’s support for the armed forces.
Highlighting the national importance of the highway, Minister Badaru described the project as a “game-changer” for Nigeria’s transportation network.
“This project is a critical component of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, designed to enhance economic activities and improve transportation across the country,” he said. “It will stimulate the economy by creating numerous jobs and economic opportunities, especially for travelers commuting between Sokoto and Lagos.”
In his remarks to the troops, the Minister expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the federal government. “You understand the importance of this road and the critical nature of your mission,” he told the soldiers. “That is why the President has entrusted me with the responsibility of visiting you to personally express our appreciation for the exceptional work you are doing.”
The Illela–Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway is expected to significantly boost trade, mobility, and regional development, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to infrastructure renewal and national security.
