The Benin Summit Group has joined millions of Edo sons and daughters at home and in diaspora to celebrate His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin, on the occasion of his 10th coronation anniversary.
In a congratulatory statement issued on Monday and signed by its Chairman-in-Council, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, the Group described the 10th anniversary as a historic milestone celebrating a decade of royal leadership, cultural renaissance and selfless service to the Great Benin Kingdom.
Throne Remains Symbol Of Ancestral Heritage, Unity And Identity
According to the Benin Summit Group, since His Majesty ascended the ancient throne of his forebears on October 20, 2016, as the 40th Oba of Benin, he has continued to occupy a position of profound significance in the history, identity and cultural life of the Benin people.
“The throne remains a symbol of ancestral heritage, traditional authority, unity and the enduring spirit of a kingdom whose civilisation has made an indelible mark on African history,” the Group said.
The Group noted that Oba Ewuare II has distinguished his reign through unwavering commitment to preservation of Benin customs, promotion of peaceful coexistence among diverse peoples, and advancement of cultural heritage that has kept the kingdom globally respected.
A Celebration Beyond Time On Throne
The Benin Summit Group stressed that the 10th coronation anniversary goes beyond mere counting of years on the throne.
“The tenth coronation anniversary is not merely a celebration of time on the throne; it is also an opportunity to reflect on the responsibility of traditional institutions in preserving history, strengthening community bonds and inspiring future generations,” it stated.
It added that the Benin Kingdom’s rich cultural legacy, under Oba Ewuare II, remains a source of immense pride to Edo people and an invaluable part of Nigeria’s national heritage.
Long Live The King
The Group, while felicitating the revered monarch, the Benin Traditional Council, chiefs, and the good people of Benin Kingdom, prayed for divine blessings upon the royal father.
“As the kingdom celebrates this remarkable occasion, we join the chiefs, people and well-wishers of Benin in honouring the revered monarch. We pray that Almighty God grants His Majesty continued wisdom, sound health, strength and a long, peaceful and prosperous reign,” the statement read.
“May the throne of our revered ancestors continue to stand as a beacon of dignity, unity and cultural pride for generations to come. Long live His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II! Long live the Great Benin Kingdom! Oba ghato kpere, Ise!” it added.
Oba Ewuare II ascended the throne in 2016 following the transition of his father, Oba Erediauwa, and has since become a leading voice for preservation of Benin artefacts, return of looted cultural treasures, and promotion of unity in Edo State.
