The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Cross River State Chapter and Executive Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area, Hon. Yibala Inyang, has declared that Cross River State is renewed in hope and revived in action under the visionary leadership of His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the ALGON General Assembly held on Thursday, 15th October 2026 in Abuja, Hon. Inyang said the Governor’s people-first governance, anchored on his administration’s strategic pillars, has invoked a devout determination among all 18 Local Government Areas of the State to emulate his template of service delivery.
According to him, the Abuja General Assembly provided a veritable platform for stock-taking and peer review, and he was proud to report that Cross River’s performance at the grassroots is rated fluid with ideas, impactful and widely appreciated even in Abuja.
Hon. Inyang noted that one of the most cheering gains is the historic return of Cross River as an oil-producing State, a feat that has restored a critical revenue stream and renewed economic confidence after years of exclusion. This, he said, is a testament to Governor Otu’s quiet but effective advocacy and lobbying at the centre for the benefit of the State.
He further celebrated the bold legislative stride of the Cross River State House of Assembly which passed the Constitution (Sixth Alteration) Bill to establish a State Police Service with an overwhelming 22 out of 25 members voting in favour. This progressive move, he said, underscores the Otu administration’s proactive approach to security, recognizing that local policing is critical to protecting lives, farmlands and investments across the hinterlands.
On the economic front, the ALGON Chairman lauded Governor Otu for launching a new Climate Transition Plan to bolster the State’s green economy. The plan, he explained, is positioning Cross River, already known as Nigeria’s green capital, to harness carbon credits, promote sustainable forestry, and attract climate finance while expanding opportunities in agriculture, eco-tourism and renewable energy.
He added that beyond these landmark reforms, the administration has sustained visible momentum in agricultural revolution through support for smallholder farmers, cocoa and oil palm value chains, as well as massive infrastructure renewal across Calabar metropolis and the three Senatorial Districts, with road rehabilitation, rural electrification and improvement in primary healthcare and education infrastructure.
Hon. Inyang urged Cross Riverians not to be deceived by political hawks as electioneering campaigns gradually take centre stage, stressing that the evidence of performance is visible across Abi, Akamkpa, Akpabuyo, Bakassi, Bekwarra, Biase, Boki, Calabar Municipal, Calabar South, Etung, Ikom, Obanliku, Obubra, Obudu, Odukpani, Ogoja, Yakurr and Yala Local Government Areas.
He commended the organisers of the General Assembly, the ALGON National President, Hon. (Engr.) Bello Lawal, the National EXCO, Principal Officers, NEC, Board of Trustees and the National Secretariat for sustaining the unity and effectiveness of the third tier of government.
He concluded by expressing profound appreciation to Governor Bassey Edet Otu for his wisdom, leadership acumen and fatherly support to the Local Government Councils, pledging the unalloyed loyalty of all 18 Chairmen towards consolidating the People First agenda.
