In a heartbreaking turn of events, kidnappers have reportedly shot dead two captives, Mohammed Danladi and Nasiru Yusuf, in Gwargwada, Kuje Area Council of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, due to a delay in ransom payment.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the two victims, along with a herder and a woman, were abducted at Gwombe junction on the Gwargwada-Rubochi road last Wednesday.
Shuaibu Abdullahi, a family member of the deceased, revealed that the kidnappers demanded N500,000 each for the two victims.
However, the families were only able to raise N500,000 in total. Unknown to the families, the kidnappers had already killed the victims due to the delay in payment.
On Friday, the kidnappers’ leader called the families, who disclosed they could only raise N500,000. Subsequently, the herder and the woman were released after a ransom of N3 million was paid at the kidnappers’ hideout in Kotonkarfe forest, Kogi State.
Ugbada Alhaji Hussaini Agabi Mam, the traditional ruler of Gwargwada, confirmed the incident. He expressed his sorrow over the loss of the two young men, who were tragically killed by their abductors due to the ransom delay.
Media reports indicate that efforts are ongoing to recover the bodies from Kotonkarfe forest, with local hunters and vigilantes mobilized by the chairman of Kotonkarfe.
The FCT Police Command has yet to made any public statement on the incident.
