Eid-Fitri: ALGON National President Hon Maifata Calls for Lawful Mass Action, Collective Civic Responsibility Against Challenges

The newly elected National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, has on behalf of the national executive council, the Board of Trustees (BOT), management and staff of ALGON, conveyed a heartfelt message to Muslims on this year’s Eid-fitri celebration.

Preaching love, unity, togetherness and tolerance in the face of all existential challenges before Nigeria as a country, the ALGON leader called for “lawful mass action, and exercise of our collective civic responsibility”.

His message, as contained in a statement issued personally by Hon. Maifata, and made available to newsmen by ALGON media office, reads:

“Dear faithful, world over, the 30 days of painstaking Ramadan fasting have ushered in a joyous celebration of yet another Eid-Fitri.

“On behalf of the national executive council, the BOT, management and staff of ALGON, it gives me great joy to appreciate and salute you all for the singular act of devotion and strict observance of Islamic principles fasting almsgiving leading to this celebration time and season.

“No doubt it has come with renewal of hope, love with reflection on the values of our shared existence as a people despite our heterogeneous nature.

“Moreso, this moment calls for love, unity, togetherness in the face of all existential challenges before us as a nation.

“ALGON will continue to engage responsibly with all critical stakeholders to ensure that challenges of the Local Governments and Area Councils are addressed to achieve a lasting peace and secured lives across board. New ALGON National President, Hon Aminu Mu'azu Maifata

“Let me point out that it is imperative to mention at this juncture that for enduring peace and prosperity to reign in our rural areas, a system of local government under a democratically elected officials must be guaranteed as contemplated by our founding fathers and framers of section 7 sub-section 1 of the 1999 constitution as amended.

“We call on everybody, as long as we are all product of local governments and saddened by the kind of pervasive malfunctioning of the system in our various locality, to join hands in advocating for a virile and strong local government institution ”, the said.

Continuing, the ALGON National President observed that “A cursory look at the LGAs and Councils, present baggages of hopelessness and inactivity; but let me assure you all that we must come together in solidarity and support the progressive actions of ALGON under my leadership especially now that call for the amendment of the constitution is gaining traction.

“All of us should rise above ethnic or religious leanings because we all share one market, one filling station, one school and none amongst these offer discounted prices for any good or service procured on basis of religion or ethnicity.

“Let me use this opportunity to say that this is a call for lawful mass action, and exercise of our collective civic responsibility”.

“Despite our diversity and adversity, I urge us all to show love compassion, tolerance, understanding, and empathy towards one another, especially at this time in our disruptive socio-economic space”.

“When we come together, the leaders at the councils will work together for maximum success regarding issues affecting the councils, prioritizing insecurity in the grassroots through intelligence gathering, speaking with one voice for community policing, creating mutual beneficial relationship for job creation, infrastructure, good governance, health, and social security.

“Let me conclude by thanking His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his love for Local Governments, I pray that this love will bear more fruits in the nearest future that we in ALGON can reckon with.

“To Governor A. A Sule (of Nasarawa State), you remain instrumental to the Nigeria Governor’s Forum, ALGON is proud of you, the 10 Assembly and the State counterparts, we are grateful to you, including the Judiciary, Civil Society, the Media and all stakeholders, please accept again the assurances of ALGON’s highest regards”.
