The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has lauded the conduct of voters and stakeholders during the Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election, describing the exercise as peaceful, credible, free, and fair.
In a statement issued after the election and jointly signed by the Coordinator of the coalition, Chief Hon. Dr. Innocent Ezeoha, Chairman Chief Afam Ani, and Secretary Barr. Ken Ike, the group commended the people of the senatorial district for demonstrating political maturity and commitment to democratic values.
According to the coalition, the orderly manner in which the election was conducted has further strengthened public confidence in the electoral process and provided a positive example for future elections across the country.
“The people of Enugu North Senatorial District deserve commendation for their peaceful conduct throughout the electoral process. The election was generally peaceful, credible, free and fair,” the statement said.
CRPP also congratulated the winner of the election, Chief Ikeje Asogwa, on his emergence as senator-elect, urging him to see his victory as a mandate to serve all constituents irrespective of political affiliations.
The coalition advised Asogwa to be magnanimous in victory by extending a hand of fellowship to his opponents and focusing on delivering effective representation capable of addressing the needs and aspirations of the people of Enugu North.
While acknowledging the efforts of all participating political parties, the coalition called on candidates and their supporters to place the overall development of the senatorial district above partisan interests.
It stressed that the conclusion of the election should mark the beginning of greater collaboration among political actors toward promoting peace, unity, and sustainable development within the zone.
CRPP further urged residents of Enugu State and Nigerians in general to draw lessons from the peaceful conduct of the bye-election as preparations gradually gather momentum for the 2027 general elections.
The coalition noted that peaceful elections remain a critical pillar of democratic consolidation and national stability, adding that citizens, political parties, electoral authorities, and security agencies must continue to work together to deepen the nation’s democratic culture.
Reaffirming its commitment to electoral integrity and good governance, CRPP expressed optimism that the standard set by the Enugu North bye-election would serve as a benchmark for future electoral contests across Nigeria.
The statement concluded with a call for continued unity among political stakeholders, emphasizing that democratic progress can only be sustained through tolerance, inclusiveness, and respect for the will of the electorate.
