PRP Slams PDP Factional Chairman Over Call for Foreign Intervention, Describes Comment as “Unpatriotic” and “Inferiority-Driven”

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has sharply criticised the Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki (SAN), over his recent call for foreign powers—including U.S. President Donald Trump and other advanced democracies—to intervene in Nigeria’s internal political affairs.
In a strongly worded statement signed by its National Chairman, Falalu Bello, OFR, the PRP described Turaki’s remarks as “reckless, dangerous, unpatriotic, and driven by an alarming inferiority complex.”
According to the PRP, Turaki’s plea for external intervention reflects a disturbing lack of faith in Nigeria’s democratic institutions and the resilience of its people. The party argued that the statement amounts to an insult against Nigeria’s sovereignty, independence, and national dignity—values, it said, that generations of Nigerians have fought tirelessly to defend.
“Nigeria is a sovereign republic with defined territories, independent governance structures, and no need for interference from foreign powers,” the party said. It added that the country’s challenges must be addressed through internal dialogue, robust democratic engagement, and patriotic leadership—not by inviting foreign governments that may pursue their own strategic interests.
The PRP further invoked its 5th Principle, which advocates total liberation from imperialism, stressing that no true independence can be achieved when a nation’s political direction is influenced or dictated by external forces.
The statement called on Turaki and the PDP to immediately retract what it described as an “incendiary and misguided” appeal. It urged all Nigerian leaders to uphold national dignity and resist actions that undermine the country’s sovereignty under the guise of protecting democracy.
“Any attempt to weaken our sovereignty in the name of ‘saving democracy’ is a betrayal of Nigeria’s dignity and a setback to national progress,” the party warned. “Nigeria’s destiny remains firmly in the hands of its resilient people.”
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the PRP’s commitment to national sovereignty:
“Long live Nigeria! Long live the sovereignty and independence of Nigeria!”
