The Obidient Movement has taken a decisive step toward shaping Nigeria’s political future with the launch of a nationwide campaign designed to strengthen citizen participation and protect the integrity of the 2027 general elections. Branded “A New Nigeria is POssible – Get Your PVC & GO MERD,” the initiative was formally introduced on August 14, 2025, during a press conference in Abuja, ahead of the Continuous Voters Registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
GO MERD, which stands for “Get Organised – Make Election Rigging Difficult,” underscores the movement’s shift toward a highly coordinated grassroots strategy. National Coordinator of Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, said the campaign aims to rally millions of Nigerians into well-structured voting blocs, expand the ownership of Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), and establish robust systems to defend the electoral process from manipulation.
Dr. Tanko revealed that the plan is to make every polling unit a hub of civic engagement, with each member either leading or joining a voting bloc of at least one hundred people. He outlined a comprehensive approach that blends community mobilization, logistical support for voter registration, leadership recruitment, and a mass turnout in 2027 to replace poor governance with leadership rooted in integrity. This will be bolstered by one million trained vote protectors, advanced technology tools, and real-time monitoring to deter electoral malpractice.
The movement’s vision extends beyond elections, aiming to foster a Nigeria where basic needs are affordable, security is assured, healthcare and education are functional, rural communities are economically linked to markets, women enjoy equal opportunities, businesses thrive without harassment, and Nigerians in the diaspora feel encouraged to return home. Dr. Tanko described this vision as one where patriotism becomes a source of pride rather than a burden.
Calling for active public participation, the Obidient Movement urged citizens not to leave the task of national renewal to others, but to secure their PVCs, join voting blocs, mobilize their neighborhoods, and volunteer as vote defenders. It also stressed the importance of both online and offline engagement, with strong social media activism through hashtags such as #ANewNigeriaIsPossible, #SaveNigeria, #GetYourPVC, #GOMERD, and #1MillionObidients.
The campaign’s closing message was a declaration of optimism and resolve, stating that Nigeria can be saved, election rigging can be made difficult, and the dream of a new Nigeria can be realized if citizens unite in purpose. The GO MERD launch marks a significant moment in the country’s democratic journey, signaling a people-driven movement determined to transform frustration into tangible change.
