The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the national grid experienced a partial disturbance at approximately 1:52 pm on November 5, 2024. According to Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, the disturbance was triggered by a series of lines and generators tripping, causing instability in the grid.
“The national grid experienced a partial disturbance…due to a series of lines and generators trippings that caused instability of the grid,” Mbah explained. However, she reassured that TCN engineers are working diligently to restore bulk power supply to affected areas.
Fortunately, data from the National Control Centre (NCC) indicated that a portion of the grid remained unaffected by the bulk power disruption. As of 2:49 pm, bulk power supply had been restored to Abuja, with gradual restoration ongoing in other parts of the country.
“We sincerely apologize for every inconvenience this may cause our electricity customers,” Mbah stated, emphasizing TCN’s commitment to minimizing disruptions and ensuring reliable power supply.
TCN’s swift response and ongoing restoration efforts aim to mitigate the impact of the partial disturbance on households, businesses, and critical infrastructure. The company will continue to provide updates on the progress of restoration works.
As the nation’s primary transmission infrastructure, TCN plays a vital role in maintaining grid stability and ensuring uninterrupted power supply. The company remains focused on upgrading and reinforcing the national grid to prevent future disturbances and enhance electricity delivery.
