A former Director-General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, has urged Nigerian youths to embrace vocational training in the hospitality sector, describing bartending as a fast-growing profession capable of creating employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Onaiwu gave the charge while commending hospitality trainer Mr Jimmy Orovie for his efforts in promoting practical skill acquisition and youth empowerment through professional bartending education.

He noted that the hospitality industry in Nigeria is experiencing steady growth, creating increasing demand for skilled professionals in hotels, restaurants, lounges, event centres and other service-oriented establishments.

According to him, bartending has evolved into a respected career that requires creativity, professionalism, discipline and customer engagement skills, adding that trained bartenders now contribute significantly to improving customer experiences and maintaining service standards within the industry.

Onaiwu encouraged young Nigerians seeking career opportunities to take advantage of vocational institutions and training platforms established to equip participants with practical hospitality skills.

He particularly urged interested applicants to register early for a bartending training programme scheduled to begin in June in Abuja, noting that early enrollment would help participants secure available placements in the programme.

The former NGF Director-General stressed that vocational education remains a critical tool for tackling unemployment and promoting self-reliance among Nigerian youths.

He explained that professional bartending training exposes participants to beverage preparation techniques, hygiene and safety standards, customer relations, responsible service delivery and other practical competencies required in the modern hospitality industry.

According to him, the skills acquired through such programmes not only prepare individuals for paid employment but also create opportunities for entrepreneurship and independent business ventures within the expanding hospitality market.
