A chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr. Osagie Iyawe, has called on the Federal Government to investigate allegations surrounding the purported resignation of Mr. Ogbeide Ihama from the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, where he reportedly serves as an Executive Director.

Iyawe urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and relevant government agencies to ascertain whether Ihama formally resigned from his position within the timeframe stipulated by electoral regulations ahead of his political activities.

The PDP stakeholder expressed concern over claims that the former federal appointee may have continued to receive salary payments from the government-owned power company beyond the March 31, 2026 resignation deadline required for public office holders seeking elective positions.

According to him, reports alleging that Ihama may have signed for his April salary while actively participating in political campaigns have raised serious questions about compliance with constitutional and electoral provisions guiding public servants involved in partisan politics.

He stressed the need for anti-corruption agencies and electoral authorities to conduct a transparent investigation into the matter in order to preserve public trust in the nation’s democratic institutions.

Iyawe maintained that public officials aspiring to contest elective offices must strictly adhere to the legal requirements relating to resignation from government positions before engaging in campaign activities.

He further noted that Nigerians deserve clarity on the controversy, adding that timely intervention by the appropriate authorities would help strengthen accountability and reinforce confidence in the electoral process ahead of future elections.
