Labour Party’s presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has concluded a visit to Indonesia, where he gained valuable insights into the country’s governance strategies and development initiatives.
Obi’s meetings with top government officials, including Agung Laksono, former Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, provided him with a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s transformation under former Presidents Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo.
According to Laksono, Indonesia’s transformation was driven by “planning, execution, and determination” with a strong focus on “measurable development in critical areas.”
Obi also met with Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, former Vice President of Indonesia, who emphasized the importance of “focused commitment approach” and “decisive leadership” in achieving simultaneous development across all sectors.
Kalla’s insights highlighted the significance of effective leadership in driving national development.
Furthermore, Obi’s discussion with Yandri Susanto, the Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions, shed light on the ministry’s efforts to advance rural development through education, healthcare, and support for micro and small businesses. Susanto noted that the ministry’s structured approach ensures “targeted progress” and effective governance.
Reflecting on his visit, Obi emphasized the need for Nigeria to adopt a similar approach, stating that “by adopting structured, data-driven policies focused on rural development, industrialization, and diversification, Nigeria can achieve inclusive and sustainable growth.”
He further noted that with “political will and strategic execution, we can unlock our full potential and ensure no region is left behind.” Obi’s visit to Indonesia has reinforced his conviction that “A New Nigeria is Possible!”
