In a daring daylight robbery that turned deadly, a police inspector and two notorious robbers met their end in a chaotic shootout at the Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nigeria.

The incident, which unfolded on a fateful Thursday evening, sent shockwaves through the community and culminated in an act of fiery retribution by the town’s enraged citizens.

The ordeal began around 5:30 pm when a band of armed robbers, emboldened and desperate, descended upon a local bank in Abaji town.

Their first target was a nearby police station along Toto Road, where they unleashed a barrage of bullets, tragically claiming the life of Police Inspector Abila, who was caught in the crossfire.

As the robbers advanced towards the bank, their path of destruction continued. A security guard, in a desperate bid for safety, was shot as he sought refuge.

Inside the bank, chaos reigned as the robbers attempted to breach the strong room, but fate had other plans. Their efforts were thwarted, and while they managed to pilfer some cash from the counters, the bulk of the bank’s reserves remained secure.

The tide turned when a combined team of policemen, soldiers, vigilantes, and hunters swiftly converged on the scene.

A fierce gun battle ensued, leading to the demise of two robbers. In the aftermath, one of the fallen criminals was seized by a mob of incensed residents and set ablaze, a stark testament to the community’s outrage and thirst for justice.

The FCT Police Commissioner, CP Benneth Igweh, arrived posthaste, confirming the deaths and lauding the valiant efforts of the security forces.

While mourning the loss of Inspector Abila, CP Igweh assured the public that the Anti-Robbery Squad, alongside local hunters, was hot on the trail of the remaining fugitives.

This harrowing episode serves as a grim reminder of the perils faced by those who stand on the front lines against crime, and the lengths to which a community will go to protect its peace.
