Abuja Business Reports Journalist Wins Merit Award At WAMECA 2021

Muhammad Auwal Ibrahim, a multiple award-winning journalist, fellow AIJC 2020 and journalist at Abuja Business Reports has been awarded with a certificate of excellence at the annual prestigious West African Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA) 2021.

Auwal was honoured at the occasion which took place at Alisa hotel in Accra, Ghana, on October 22, 2021.

It will be recalled that Auwal was shortlisted for the prestigious award on October 6, 2021 along with 20 other veteran journalists who excelled in the field of journalism across the West African sub region.

He was awarded for his timely two part series reports on ICTs and telecommunications published by Edutorial magazine last year.

The multiple award-winning journalist has within two years demonstrated excellent performance in the field of journalism.

He was awarded as a finalist along with 20 others during the award organised by the Media Foundation for West Africa.

The finalists were selected from five west African countries after a thorough judging process by a five-member jury.

“The 2021 West Africa Media Excellence Awards received 711 entries from 14 countries in West Africa. The five-member jury after a thorough review of the entries shortlisted 21 finalists from five countries.” said the MFWA.

Auwal was among the 10 Nigerians honored at the award night.

Speaking after winning the award, Auwal expressed his happiness saying “I am super excited to receive this award of merit. Alhamdu lilLah, this shows nothing but the fairness, balance and justice of my reports. May Allah help us.“

“Aside from this, it is a great achievement for me as a 200 level student to emerge as a finalist in the midst of Ph.D, masters and bachelor degree holders drawn from across the west African countries.”

“I am so happy to be among the West African finest journalists. Being among the best journalists in West Africa, not Nigeria is not easy. Glory be to Almighty Allah”

Recall that in 2020, he was selected as a fellow of African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC20) hosted by the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, Wits Journalism and also shortlisted for the annual Youth Digest Journalism Awards 2020.

Not only that, he has won the Inaugural Lekan Otufodunrin Journalists Awards 2021 recently and got nominated for another Global fellowship titled ‘Climate Tracker COP26’.

On Saturday night, he also emerged as the first runner up of ICIR Investigative Journalism Award 2021 held at the University of Ibadan.
