Amid worsening electricity supply to power Nigeria’s ailing economy, the Niger State House of Assembly is set to grill the regional manager, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
The House in exercise of its oversight powers, summoned the senior member of the management team of the electricity distribution company to appear at the plenary of the House on Tuesday next week.
The summons came on the heels of a motion sponsored by Member Representing Bida II Constituency, Hon. Mohammed Alhaji Haruna at the House plenary.
While presenting the motion, Hon. Haruna informed his colleagues that the AEDC is the sole distributor of electricity in most parts of Niger State.
He further explained that the power supply in recent times across the state has been very poor and erratic, with many areas hardly get power supply.
Hon. Haruna added that those enjoying electricity supply are those on 33KVA transmission line.
According to him, the precarious development has affected a lot of business activities as most of them rely on electricity supply in order to operate their businesses, lack of which has xcaused many to fold up because they can’t afford to fuel generators as an alternative to electricity supply.
The legislator stated that without adequate power supply, the state water works cannot supply water.
At the end of the presentation and deliberations, the House unanimously adopted the prayers of the motion by inviting the regional manager of AEDC to appear at the plenary of the House next Tuesday.
