The National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Bello Lawal, has led a high-level delegation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in a strategic move to deepen collaboration between local governments and the Nigeria Police Force.

The meeting, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, brought together top ALGON officials and senior police leadership, underscoring renewed commitment to tackling insecurity at the grassroots level across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.

Lawal, who led the delegation comprising prominent figures such as Odunayo Ategbero, Evan Enekwe, Alabi Kolade, and Alphonsus Ubanesse, reaffirmed ALGON’s resolve to support policing efforts nationwide.

He described the appointment of IGP Disu by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a strategic decision capable of strengthening security architecture at the grassroots. According to him, ALGON remains committed to aligning with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda by fostering intelligence sharing, enhancing community policing, and building operational synergy with security agencies.

“Security begins at the local level,” Lawal stated, stressing that the association is consolidating measures to ensure that all local governments are adequately secured through coordinated efforts with the police.

The ALGON president also raised concerns over recent unauthorized intrusions at the association’s secretariat, describing them as violations of constitutional order. While noting that the body has opted for restraint, he warned that any further infractions would attract firm legal and constitutional responses.National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Bello Lawal, and Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu

Responding, IGP Disu welcomed the delegation and commended ALGON for its longstanding partnership with the police, recalling the association’s support in the early 2000s through the donation of operational vehicles.

He assured the delegation of the Police Force’s readiness to strengthen collaboration, deploy resources effectively, and leverage modern strategies in rapid response and community engagement to secure lives and property.
