The Kaduna Region of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has received four new power transformers for two major transmission substations in Kaduna State, a development expected to significantly improve electricity transmission capacity and reliability across Nigeria’s North-West region.

According to a press statement from the regional office, two 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformers have been delivered to the Jaja Transmission Substation in Kudan Local Government Area, while another two 66MVA 132/33kV power transformers were installed at the Jaji Transmission Substation in Igabi Local Government Area. The equipment arrived on Monday, March 2, 2026.

The projects, located in Kaduna State, are part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades designed to strengthen the national transmission grid and enhance electricity supply to distribution companies and end-users across the region.

TCN disclosed that the two substation projects were strategically designed to enhance power supply reliability and expand transmission capacity across the North-West, adding that the initiative has already reached an advanced stage of development.

Funding for the projects was provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB), a move that has generated optimism among officials of the transmission company and community stakeholders who expect improved electricity supply once the installations are completed.

When fully operational, the Jaja 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation will be connected to the 330kV Kano Transmission Line, a critical power infrastructure link expected to reinforce the grid and enable more efficient electricity transmission within the region.

The company noted that the new substations would help reduce power outages, improve voltage stability, and ensure a more reliable bulk electricity supply to distribution load centres.

Ultimately, the improved transmission capacity will support better electricity delivery to consumers in Kano State and neighbouring areas served by the regional power network.

Officials say the development represents another step toward strengthening Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure and improving power supply reliability for households and businesses across the North-West.
