Christmas: ALGON Chairman Ihunda Calls for Unity, Teamwork and Renewed Commitment to Rivers’ Progress

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Rivers State, and Executive Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA), Hon. Sir Allwell Ihunda, has called on leaders and citizens of Rivers State to embrace unity, teamwork and a renewed commitment to collective progress as Christians celebrate Christmas.
In a heartfelt Christmas message, Hon. Ihunda described the season as one filled with deep spiritual meaning and hope for a better future. He noted that, “in the hush of this holy night, when starlight whispers the promise of hope, I am compelled to speak from the depths of a grateful heart,” adding that “the miracle of Christmas ignites a fire within us—a fire that can melt the hardest of challenges and illuminate the path to a brighter Rivers State.”
Extending warm greetings on behalf of the Local Government Council Chairmen, the ALGON Chairman addressed a broad spectrum of stakeholders across the state. According to him, “to His Excellency Governor Similayi Fubara, the State Executive Council, the Judiciary, the Mass Media, Civil Society, women, youths and every cherished citizen of Rivers State, I on behalf of the Local Government Council Chairmen, heartily extend our warmest Christmas greetings.”
Hon. Ihunda acknowledged what he described as “unwavering dedication and spirited leadership with tangible realities of progress,” stressing that sustained development requires collective effort. He assured that, “together we will continue to do our best on our part.”
Reflecting on his responsibilities as ALGON Chairman and Executive Chairman of PHALGA, he emphasized that effective governance at the grassroots thrives on collaboration. He stated that “building resilient communities, delivering essential services, and nurturing the unity that defines our great state is a function of teamwork and team-spirit of which we shall bring to bear.”
The ALGON Chairman also offered prayers for peace, love and prosperity across Rivers State, expressing the hope that, “the radiant light of the Nativity fill your homes with peace, your hearts with love, and our beloved Rivers with lasting prosperity.”
He urged citizens and leaders to use the season as a moment of recommitment to public welfare, saying, “let us reaffirm our pledge to work hand-hand for the welfare of every Rivers citizen, ensuring that the blessings of this season echo throughout the years to come.”
Hon. Ihunda concluded by wishing the people of Rivers State a joyful celebration and a promising year ahead, declaring, “wishing you a joyous Christmas and a New Year blessed with health, harmony and progress.”
