The heat is on for former NNPCL boss, Mele Kyari, as the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) and over 75 civil society organisations under the Coalition of National Civil Society Organisations (CNCSOs) have stormed out with a fiery warning: no cover-up will be tolerated in the ongoing EFCC probe.
In a joint statement signed by Comrade James Ezema of CNPP and Alhaji Ali Abacha of CNCSOs, the groups thundered that the EFCC’s decision to arrest and grill Kyari is “a long-awaited step in the right direction” after years of corruption scandals in the oil and gas sector.
“Our refineries have remained comatose despite billions of dollars purportedly expended under Kyari’s watch,” they fumed. “The Nigerian people have endured decades of monumental fraud, waste, and mismanagement. This case must not be another scam investigation.”
Calling for an uncompromised and transparent probe, the coalition insisted that all those found guilty must be prosecuted “no matter their political or economic connections.”
And the warning was blunt: “If this investigation is compromised or derailed in any way, we will not hesitate to deploy all constitutional and legal instruments, including public interest litigation, mass action, and sustained advocacy campaigns, to ensure that justice is not denied to the Nigerian people.”
The statement described any attempt to shield Kyari or sweep the matter under the carpet as “a betrayal of public trust and a slap in the face of millions of citizens who suffer daily from subsidy scams, fuel import dependency, and economic hardship.”
“This case must be a litmus test for the EFCC. No Nigerian, no matter how highly placed, is above the law,” the groups declared.
Concluding, CNPP and CNCSOs hailed the EFCC for “finally taking the right step” and demanded it “stay the course without fear or favour” in proving that the anti-graft war is real.
