The Enugu State Chapter of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has issued a glowing mid-term assessment of the administration of Governor Dr. Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, lauding his transformative achievements in the transport sector and describing them as a “gamechanger” for the state.

In a press release jointly signed by the State Coordinator, Chief Innocent Ezeoha; Chairman, Dr. Afam Ani; and Secretary, Barr. Ken Ikeh, the CRPP emphasized that this evaluation is part of its ongoing sector-by-sector review of the governor’s performance since assuming office on May 29, 2023. According to the coalition, Governor Mbah’s administration has, in less than two years, launched an ambitious and visionary overhaul of Enugu State’s transport infrastructure — a move the CRPP believes is not only modernizing mobility but also stimulating economic growth, improving livelihoods, and enhancing the overall quality of life across the state.

The coalition highlighted that at the heart of the Mbah administration’s transport reforms is an expansive program of road construction and rehabilitation. “To date, the Mbah administration has completed an impressive 71 urban roads, with an additional 80 projects currently underway,” the CRPP stated. It noted that these projects span key urban centers, including Coal Camp, Idaw River, Uwani, and Gariki, some of which have not seen substantial infrastructure intervention in over fifty years. The coalition further applauded the administration for launching the critical construction of the 40-kilometer Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Neke-Ikem dual carriageway, which significantly enhances connectivity to Nigeria’s North-Central region. “Notably, the government has committed to constructing a minimum of 10 kilometers of road in each electoral ward, ensuring that rural communities are not left behind in the wave of infrastructural development,” the CRPP remarked.

Beyond road projects, the CRPP praised the administration’s drive to modernize urban transport infrastructure, citing the commissioning of four ultra-modern transport terminals strategically located at Holy Ghost, Abakpa, Gariki, and Nsukka. “These terminals are envisioned as central interchanges designed to streamline both intra- and inter-state transportation, reducing congestion and improving commuter experiences,” the coalition observed. The CRPP also underscored the administration’s environmental and economic foresight, pointing to the procurement of 150 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses — 50 of which have already been delivered — as a bold commitment to sustainable and cost-effective public transport. Additionally, the coalition highlighted the state’s successful partnerships with private sector players, which have attracted plans to introduce over 2,000 new taxis, alongside a planned vehicle assembly plant in Enugu. “This will not only improve transport services but also boost local employment and drive economic vibrancy,” the CRPP asserted.

In a particularly notable development, the coalition drew attention to the administration’s allocation of ₦41.1 billion in the 2025 state budget for the acquisition of four aircraft under the state-owned airline, Enugu Air. “This initiative, further strengthened by plans to concession the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and construct an international cargo terminal, is set to position Enugu as a leading aviation hub, enhancing both domestic and international trade capacity,” the CRPP emphasized.

The CRPP was keen to highlight the administration’s forward-looking multimodal transport vision. “Plans to revitalize rail transport within the state and activate inland waterway services via the Ogurugu River in Uzo-Uwani — connecting to Onitsha and Kogi State — demonstrate a comprehensive approach to unlocking the state’s trade and logistics potential,” the coalition declared.

The coalition also commended the appointment of Obi Ozor, co-founder of the renowned logistics platform Kobo360, as Commissioner for Transportation, noting that this underscores the administration’s focus on technological integration, innovation, and operational efficiency in the transport sector.

Strategic urban planning under Governor Mbah was another area the CRPP praised, pointing to the dualization of major roads like the Enugu-Ugwogo-Opi road, the construction of flyovers at Abakpa Junction and Chris Chemist/Old Park junction, and the ambitious development of a 10,000-kilometer ring road network linking agro-processing and industrial zones across the state. “These projects reflect a deep commitment to creating a resilient and prosperous Enugu,” the coalition observed.

“As a coalition dedicated to fostering good governance, the CRPP recognizes that Governor Mbah’s comprehensive approach to transportation reform is reshaping the economic landscape of Enugu State, opening new doors of opportunity, and laying the foundation for long-term prosperity,” the statement read. “We commend the governor for these visionary initiatives, strategic investments, and unwavering commitment to building a sustainable, connected, and thriving Enugu.”

In conclusion, the CRPP urged the Mbah administration to maintain its current momentum, ensure the timely completion of ongoing projects, and continue engaging with stakeholders to guarantee that the benefits of these transformative projects are maximally realized by all residents of Enugu State.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to offering objective assessments, celebrating meaningful achievements, and providing constructive recommendations as part of our collective goal of building a stronger, more prosperous, and future-ready Enugu State,” the statement concluded.
