Determined to create employment and stimulate the local economy, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has assured that it will continue pursue laudable schemes aimed at generating employment for teeming unemployed persons in the country.
Speaking at the official commissioning of the newly renovated Common Facility Centre (Garri Processing Facility) in Lagelu Local Government Area in Oyo State, the State Coordinator, NDE Oyo State, who spoke on behalf of the NDE Director General Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, noted that over the years, the Federal Government through the agency, had executed programmes which not generate employment but also created wealth through quantitative entrepreneurship trainings leading to poverty reduction in the country.
He emphasized that, the NDE’s focus is on addressing the rising unemployment rate in the country in line with the objective of the FG,s drive on Job creation and poverty eradication.
The director general pointed out that grassroots penetration and collaboration with all stakeholders remains a functional strategy that is being adopted by the agency in tackling the prevailing unemployment rate in the country.
“We believe that collaboration with relevant stakeholders is very key in building capacity of the unemployed at the grassroots level and making them employable by nurturing the much needed knowledge, skills and competence in them.”
The D.G charged the beneficiaries to develop a focused and healthy attitude to the scheme so as to justify the huge investment being made on them by the government.
“The initial execution of works on the project being commissioned today require the involvement of a wide range of stakeholders including state and local governments. I must commend Lagelu LGA for responding promptly to the NDE ‘s request to provide the needed assistance to actualize this project.”
Responding, the Local Government Chairman of Lagelu L.G.A, Hon. Kazeem Adeyemi Gbadamosi, who was represented by the Director of Local Government Administration, Alhaji Raji Asimiyu, thanked the NDE for the project which was conceptualised and modelled to make use the availability resources in Oyo State to create employment and stimulate the local economy.
He expressed optimism that the project will have a multiplier effect in many aspects as concived in the deliberate and strategic citing of this scheme in the locality.
He also appealed to the NDE not to relent in pursuing long term plans that would go a long way in transforming lives across the 33 LGAs in the state and assured of maximum grassroot support at all times.
He also noted that the effective actualization of government intervention, at the local level will trigger visible transformation of economic activities in the state and commended NDE and other stakeholders for their commitment and robust contribution towards imparting sound entrepreneural skills to the teeming unemployed youths in the state.
“I am therefore appealing to other LGAS in Oyo State in particular and other States in general, to join hands with the NDE in this worthy venture.”
