Newly appointed Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has pledged to deepen collaboration among stakeholders in Nigeria’s electricity industry as part of efforts to accelerate reforms, improve governance, and enhance accountability across the sector.

Speaking during his first official meeting with chief executives and heads of agencies under the Federal Ministry of Power in Abuja, Tegbe stressed that achieving the Federal Government’s objectives for the electricity industry would depend largely on effective cooperation among institutions operating within the sector.

The minister noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has outlined key priorities aimed at transforming the power industry, including increasing electricity generation, expanding transmission infrastructure, improving sector liquidity, and promoting investments in renewable energy projects.

While acknowledging gains recorded in recent years, Tegbe maintained that significant work remains to be done to meet national targets. New Power Minister Tegbe meets power sector stakeholders

According to him, progress has been made in several areas of the industry, but performance has yet to fully align with the expectations and benchmarks established by government. He expressed confidence that adopting new strategies and strengthening institutional cooperation would help the sector achieve improved results.

Describing electricity as a critical driver of economic growth and national development, the minister argued that governance and coordination challenges remain among the biggest obstacles confronting the industry.

He observed that many of the sector’s difficulties extend beyond technical issues, emphasizing that no single agency or department can independently resolve the challenges facing the nation’s power supply chain. The meeting was attended by chief executives and senior officials from major power sector institutions, including the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), FGN Power Company, and Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET).

Tegbe therefore called for stronger synergy among agencies, regulators, operators, and other stakeholders, urging them to function as a unified team focused on a common objective. He stressed the importance of information sharing, effective communication, and coordinated action in addressing long-standing industry concerns.

The minister also highlighted the strategic role of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in maintaining stability across the electricity value chain, describing transmission infrastructure as central to the success of ongoing sector reforms.

He commended the company for its swift response to a recent feeder outage, revealing that the utility restored electricity supply within the timeline set by his office.

According to Tegbe, the rapid intervention demonstrated the benefits of teamwork, commitment, and effective operational coordination among power sector institutions.

As part of efforts to improve efficiency and service delivery, the minister disclosed plans to introduce a performance-based incentive system that would reward productivity, innovation, and excellence across agencies and parastatals under the ministry.Newly appointed Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, and officials of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN)
