The Ministry of Defence has taken a significant step towards enhancing its procurement processes by organizing a three-day technical seminar for its procurement staff.
The seminar, which focused on procurement audit, e-Procurement, Performance Management System (PMS), and Enterprise Content Management (ECM), aimed to improve the overall morale and performance of the staff.
Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, emphasized the importance of the seminar, stating that the titles were carefully chosen to reflect the organizational components of public procurement, including people, paperwork, and process.
He highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to analyzing issues involving economy, efficiency, fairness, reliability, and ethical standards in public procurement.
Mr. Otalike Peter Yahaya, Acting Director of Procurement, welcomed participants and outlined the seminar’s objectives. He explained that the training would expose staff to best practices in procurement audits and investigations, enabling them to understand essential tools for internal control and streamlining the purchase process.
The Performance Management System in Procurement is expected to help the Ministry evaluate employee skills, strength, and overall efficiency. The seminar was attended by various Directors of the Ministry, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to improving its procurement processes.
This initiative underscores the Ministry of Defence’s efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and efficiency in its operations. By investing in the training and development of its procurement staff, the Ministry aims to enhance its overall performance and effectiveness in serving the nation.
