The Jigawa State Executive Council has made a groundbreaking decision to acquire Khadija University, a private institution in the state, for a whopping N11 billion. This strategic move aims to broaden access to higher education for Jigawa’s youth and foster sustainable growth and development.
Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Sagiru Musa, disclosed the council’s approval after a series of negotiations with the university’s proprietor. The state government will pay N4 billion upfront, with the remaining balance settled in installments.
To ensure a seamless transition, a committee comprising the State Commissioners for Higher and Basic Education has been established. Their mandate includes outlining the takeover process and safeguarding the academic interests of existing students.
This acquisition marks a significant milestone, bringing the number of state-owned universities in Jigawa to two. The move demonstrates the state government’s unwavering commitment to education and human capital development.
In a related development, the council has approved the purchase of 20 Combined Harvesters for N1.247 billion, bolstering the state’s agricultural mechanization efforts. This initiative aims to enhance food production, create job opportunities, and drive economic growth.
