The Executive Chairman of Oru West Local Government Area and ALGON Chairman, Imo State, Hon. Engr. Ikenna Adikibe, has led a distinguished delegation of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) to a three-day international training summit in Accra, Ghana.

The summit, hosted by the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF), brought together sub-national leaders from across West Africa to strengthen collaboration and establish developmental benchmarks tailored to the region’s unique governance challenges.

Delivering his remarks, Hon. Adikibe, who also serves as ALGON Deputy National President, conveyed goodwill messages from the ALGON National President, Hon. Bello Lawal, alongside the Executive Council and National Executive Committee.

He emphasized the significance of the training in advancing global standards for rural governance, reinforcing Africa’s governance architecture, and unlocking economic opportunities through shared commitment and duty.
He commended the organizers of the Executive Strategic Leadership and Management Course for Effective Local Governance, noting that its outcomes would be cascaded through ALGON state executives to ensure equitable benefits across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT. According to him, the knowledge gained will empower local government chairmen to deliver on their constitutional responsibilities as outlined in the Fourth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

He concluded by expressing gratitude to Governor Hope Uzodimma for his unwavering support to local government administration in Nigeria.
