The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has praised the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for the swift arrest of three suspected vandals who were caught dismantling critical transmission infrastructure at the Osogbo Transmission Substation.

According to a statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, the suspects — identified as Adigwe (52), Bomi (39), and Seyi (42) — were apprehended on November 1, 2025, while disassembling three 132kV disconnect switch (DS) contact isolators. The equipment, stored securely in a container at the substation, forms part of TCN’s essential operational materials.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects had already dismantled five out of eighteen DS contact isolators before security operatives intercepted them. They were reportedly caught with three of the vandalised components in their possession. One of the suspects, Adigwe, allegedly confessed that he and his accomplices tampered with the equipment without any authorisation or a legitimate TCN-issued permit.

TCN noted that this arrest comes just two days before another incident on November 3, 2025, in which local vigilantes in Upu Community, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, intercepted five individuals attempting to vandalise the Otukpo–Yandev 132kV single-circuit transmission line. The company said the recurring incidents underscore the persistent threat posed by vandalism to Nigeria’s power infrastructure.

While assuring the public that the suspects will face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations, TCN reaffirmed its commitment to working with security agencies nationwide to protect critical national assets. The company emphasised that those found culpable will be charged under existing laws designed to safeguard national infrastructure.

TCN further appealed to citizens to take an active role in the security of electricity facilities across the country. The company urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities around power installations to the nearest security agency or TCN office, stressing that collective responsibility remains vital to the stability and reliability of the national grid.
