In a major shake-up of Nigeria’s military leadership, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved sweeping changes among the Service Chiefs, signaling a renewed push to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.

According to a statement from the State House on Friday, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed the new Chief of Defence Staff, taking over from General Christopher Musa. Major-General W. Shaibu becomes the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke has been named Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas will now serve as Chief of Naval Staff.

The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

President Tinubu, who also serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Musa, and other former Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” to the nation.
