The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kebbi State chapter, Hon. Mohammad Dahiru Ambursa, has showered praises on the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, describing him as a visionary and people-oriented leader whose administration has set new benchmarks for accountability, transparency, and workers’ welfare.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi, Hon. Ambursa said the ALGON body in the state is deeply impressed by the governor’s leadership style, which has rekindled hope in effective governance and equitable development across the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
“Governor Nasir Idris has demonstrated remarkable acumen and visionary leadership since assuming office on May 29, 2023, and we are thrilled to witness the tangible outcomes of his administration’s efforts,” Ambursa said.
Kebbi Government Fully Up-to-Date with Salaries, Pensions, and Benefits
One of the most significant achievements of the Idris administration, according to Hon. Ambursa, is the prompt payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities, and death benefits, a move that has brought tremendous relief to public servants and retirees in the state.
“The Kebbi State Government has confirmed that it is up-to-date in paying the new minimum wage and other entitlements. This is a significant milestone that has brought immense relief to our workers and retirees,” he emphasized.
In a show of fiscal courage, Governor Idris approved a ₦75,000 minimum wage, surpassing the ₦70,000 benchmark set by the Federal Government — a gesture Ambursa described as a bold commitment to workers’ welfare and social justice.
He added that this decision has had a multiplier effect on the state’s economy, improving household income, boosting local businesses, and raising living standards for civil servants and their dependents.
Fiscal Transparency and Accountability at the Core of Governance
Hon. Ambursa also commended the Idris administration’s emphasis on prudent financial management, citing the ₦43.29 billion revised 2025 appropriation bill, recently passed and signed into law.
“This shows that the administration is not only people-focused but also financially disciplined, ensuring that every kobo is accounted for and directed towards developmental priorities,” he said.
The ALGON Chairman described Governor Idris’s governance model as a balance between social welfare and economic sustainability, which is rapidly reshaping Kebbi State’s image as one of the most fiscally responsible states in Nigeria.
Local Governments Driving Agricultural and Economic Growth
Highlighting the strategic role of the 21 LGAs in state development, Ambursa reaffirmed ALGON’s readiness to work closely with the governor to expand Kebbi’s agricultural frontiers and drive inclusive growth.
“Our LGAs will continue to partner with the state to stimulate its economic arteries and upscale the agricultural ecosystem,” he said.
He pointed out that Kebbi remains a key player in Nigeria’s agricultural economy, producing rice, millet, sorghum, onions, and groundnuts in large quantities.
Bagudo LGA, for instance, is known for large-scale rice production, Aleiro LGA holds the record as Nigeria’s largest onion-producing area, while Maiyama LGA is renowned for rice and livestock farming.
Infrastructure, Education, and Health Development
Ambursa praised the Idris administration for prioritizing infrastructure, health, and education. The state government, he said, has embarked on massive road construction and rehabilitation, while introducing e-government services to improve administrative efficiency.
Kebbi is also home to the world-famous Argungu Fishing Festival, a UNESCO-recognized cultural event that continues to attract tourism and investment opportunities, thereby boosting local revenue and cultural preservation.
He listed other ongoing initiatives, including: Malaria control projects and community-led sanitation campaigns, Educational investments through the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology (KSUSTA) and other institutions and Economic diversification through mining, trade, and cross-border commerce with neighboring countries.
A Call for Continued Collaboration and Growth
Looking ahead, Hon. Ambursa said the synergy between the state government and local councils will remain vital for achieving sustainable growth and prosperity.
“We are poised to drive development and growth in the state, and we are confident that the administration’s focus on transparency and accountability will attract more investments and improve the lives of our citizens,” he stated.
He concluded by reaffirming ALGON’s full support for Governor Idris’s vision of a prosperous, transparent, and inclusive Kebbi State, where every citizen benefits from the dividends of democracy.
