The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dismissed reports by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) alleging that an explosion at its Onitsha Sub-Region facility caused recent power disruptions in parts of Anambra State and Oji River in Enugu State.

In a statement signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN described the EEDC’s claim as misinformation and clarified that no explosion occurred at the Onitsha station.

According to the company, the partial loss of power recorded on August 21, 2025, around 2:34 a.m., was caused by an insulation flashover on a porcelain insulator of the red phase jumper conductor to bus bar 1 following rainfall. The statement added that supply was fully restored by 5:54 p.m. on the same day.

TCN further disclosed that it had already scheduled a maintenance outage for August 31 and September 1, 2025, to replace the stack porcelain insulators in the affected section.

“We clarify that there was no explosion of equipment or loss of switchgear equipment in the TCN Onitsha region,” the statement emphasized, urging EEDC to ensure accuracy in public communication.

The company warned against what it termed “deliberate deception or propaganda,” stressing that such practices are unprofessional and unacceptable in the power sector.
