The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has intensified its campaign against vandalism of power infrastructure with a sensitization programme held in Umelu Community, Benin City, Edo State.

The event, which took place on August 20, 2025, at the palace of the Enogie of Umelu community, brought together traditional leaders, youth groups, security agencies, and other stakeholders to address the dangers of vandalism and illegal excavations around transmission towers.

Speaking at the forum, the General Manager, Transmission, Benin Region, Engr. C.C. Iwuamadi, commended the host community for their continuous cooperation in safeguarding national assets within their domain. He stressed that tampering with transmission facilities poses grave risks to human lives, property, and the stability of the National Grid. TCN campaign against vandalism in Edo Community

“Protecting these infrastructures is a collective responsibility. Vandalism not only undermines electricity supply across the country but also endangers the safety and wellbeing of the very communities hosting these facilities,” Iwuamadi warned.

The sensitization exercise was attended by community chiefs, youth leaders, representatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and members of the media. By involving key local actors, TCN said it is adopting a holistic approach to curbing vandalism and promoting vigilance around its facilities.

The initiative forms part of TCN’s ongoing nationwide campaign, which has earlier been taken to Abuja, Port Harcourt, Lagos, and Enugu. According to the company, the outreach programmes are designed to instill a culture of collective responsibility and vigilance among communities that host transmission lines and towers.
