In a strongly-worded statement, Hon. Stephen Abraham Ajiya, a frontline aspirant for the position of National Vice Chairman, North Central, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has categorically rejected the May 24, 2025, PDP North Central Zonal Congress held in Jos, Plateau State. Calling the event “a monumental fraud”, Ajiya has vowed legal action to overturn its outcome, which he claims was “premeditated and manipulated.”

Addressing journalists on May 27, 2025, Ajiya denounced the process as illegitimate, citing the absence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as evidence of its invalidity. According to him, INEC refused to attend the congress because the official invitation was not signed by a recognized party official—an omission that he described as a deliberate and unlawful act that nullifies the entire process.

“This Was Not an Election,” Ajiya Declares

Ajiya stated in unequivocal terms that the congress was not a free and fair election, but rather a carefully orchestrated imposition designed to force through a preselected candidate. He revealed that delegates were handed **ballots with only one name and required to inscribe their own names on them—a clear attempt to intimidate and compromise their vote.

“What took place in Jos was not merely irregular—it was criminal,” he asserted, condemning the manipulation and impunity that characterized the event.

Allegations of Financial Inducements and Betrayal

In a shocking revelation, Ajiya disclosed that overtures were made to buy his silence, but he rejected them outright, stating: “I am not for sale. My loyalty lies with the principles of justice and fairness.”

He further alleged that some senior party figures aligned themselves with this manipulated outcome in exchange for financial incentives, accusing them of betraying the PDP and weakening the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Legal Battle Looms

In his closing remarks, Ajiya announced that he is heading to court, determined to pursue all legal avenues to challenge the legitimacy of the congress. “This cannot be allowed to stand. Not today. Not tomorrow. Not ever,” he vowed.

Despite the controversy, Ajiya reaffirmed his commitment to a reformed and transparent PDP, urging the party to cleanse itself of corruption and impunity. “History is watching. The people are watching. And I will not be silent,” he declared.

As legal proceedings loom, the unfolding crisis could significantly impact the PDP’s internal dynamics, raising concerns about the party’s cohesion and democratic integrity ahead of future elections.
