In Minna, Niger State, an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI), Christian Oladimeji, sustained a gunshot wound during an altercation involving a police patrol team and hoodlums on Friday at around 12:30 PM.

The counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, which focuses on the Lake Chad region, reported the incident. According to intelligence sources, a surveillance patrol team from the ‘A’ division police command in Minna, led by Ibrahim Paiko, encountered a group of road construction workers suspected of carrying stolen iron rods near Obasanjo Complex.

The workers abandoned the materials and fled upon noticing the police. While officers were attempting to recover the iron rods, they were attacked by other road construction workers and hoodlums who threw stones and other objects at them.

The attack resulted in damage to the Patrol Vehicle used by the police. In an effort to escape being overrun by the mob, ASP Ibrahim Audu reportedly fired a shot that accidentally struck ASI Christian Oladimeji, who was passing by on a motorcycle.

The bullet hit Oladimeji in the lap, causing the victim to fall from the motorcycle and sustain additional injuries. Oladimeji was rushed to IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna, where medical personnel confirmed that although no bullet fragments remained in the victim’s body, the immigration officer suffered a waist fracture.

Authorities have detained several suspects for questioning and initiated disciplinary action against the officers involved. Residents have been urged to remain calm as security agencies continue their efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
