Explosion Rocks Abuja School, One Feared Dead, Others Critically Injured

A devastating explosion rocked an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyi community of Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Monday, January 6, 2025, resulting in the death of one student and leaving four others critically injured.

The blast, which occurred around noon, sent shockwaves through the community, located approximately 42 kilometers from Abuja’s city center. Emergency response teams, including the police bomb disposal squad, swiftly arrived at the scene, and the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

According to reports, the deceased student may have been carrying a substance suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) when it detonated.

However, authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the explosion or the circumstances surrounding it.

The incident has raised serious concerns among residents, with many calling for enhanced security measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, could not be reached for comments.

As the community mourns the loss of one of its young members, the investigation into the explosion is expected to uncover more details about the incident.

The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring safety and security in educational institutions.
