The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to the relocation of eight 132kV and 33kV towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV line. The relocation is necessitated by the Federal Capital Development Agency’s (FCDA) road dualization project along the Apo axis.

According to Ndidi Mbah, General Manager (GM), Public Affairs, TCN, the planned power outage will commence on Monday, January 6, and last until Monday, January 20, 2025, from 9 am to 4 pm daily. This period is estimated to be the duration required for the dismantling and construction of the towers as well as the restringing of power cables.

“The relocation of the transmission towers is a necessity for the road completion project,” Mbah explained. “We apologize for the inconvenience this planned power outage will cause and assure that power supply will be restored as soon as the towers relocation and cable stringing are completed.”

The planned power outage will affect customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in areas such as Kubwa, Karu, Maraba, Nyanya, Masaka, Keffi, Kukwaba, and Apo Mechanic. Parts of Lugbe, Trademore Estate, Pyakasa, Sabon Lugbe, and Chika Alaita axis will also be affected.

TCN has assured that the planned power outage is necessary to ensure the safe relocation of the transmission towers and to prevent any damage to the power infrastructure. The company has also promised to restore power supply as soon as the relocation work is completed.
