Nigerian leaders and citizens have been commended by the National President of the Association Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, for recognizing the vital role local governments play in driving prosperity. This acknowledgment follows the Supreme Court’s judgment in favour of financial autonomy for local governments in Nigeria.
In just four months since the landmark judgment, over 12 states have conducted local government elections, demonstrating significant compliance. Five more states are expected to follow suit by year-end.
ALGON said that it remains committed to promoting accountability, good governance, and service delivery, aligning with international standards in grassroots governance.
The ALGON National President who spoke in his Independence Day press release noted that to ensure responsiveness, ALGON will continue conducting regular needs assessments, due diligence, and oversight performance evaluations through zonal National Executive Council Meetings.
“ALGON is dedicated to empowering local governments, ensuring accountability, and fostering sustainable development,” National President Aminu Mu’azu reaffirmed.
