The Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, has set the record straight regarding reports circulating online that he lost his polling unit in the Garki/Babura Federal Constituency by-election. His office on Sunday, August 17, 2025, issued a clarification to correct what it described as misleading and inaccurate information.
According to the statement, the Minister’s actual polling unit is Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School, Polling Unit 002, where he personally cast his ballot during the election.
The official results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission and duly announced by the Returning Officer confirmed that the All Progressives Congress emerged victorious at the unit with 188 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party scored 164 votes.
The statement emphasized that these results clearly show that the APC won at the Minister’s polling unit, contrary to claims in some reports that identified the polling unit as PU 001 and alleged a loss for the Minister. It further noted that such reports were both false and misleading, calling on the public, party supporters, and the media to place reliance only on official results declared by INEC.
Rejecting the erroneous narratives in circulation, the Minister’s office insisted that the truth remains that Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School, Polling Unit 002, recorded victory for the APC.
The statement, signed by Mati Ali, Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Honourable Minister of Defence, urged Nigerians to disregard the spurious claims and rely on facts provided by the electoral umpire.
